No More Fear to Go Abroad.
In order to let people with disabilities try if barrier-free facilities in Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport are suitable or not, Taoyuan County Cultural Foundation organized a series of activities“Accessible Tourism-Dreams Come True”and invited over 20 people with disabilities to pass the customs and shop at duty-free shops. After experiencing accessible facilities, many of them are not afraid of going abroad anymore. This activity proved that people with disabilities also can enjoy the convenience of going abroad.
To encourage people with disabilities to enjoy outdoor activities and fulfill their dreams of traveling, Taoyuan County Government and Taoyuan County Cultural Foundation took the lead in combining private enterprises’ resource to organize a series of activities “Accessible Tourism-Dreams Come True” for disabilities. The organizer invited over 20 people with disabilities to Taoyuan International Airport to experience real situation of going abroad, including pass the customs, shop at duty-free shops and use different accessible facilities and services.
According to Yu Ning, Shu, the Head of Social Affairs Department, Taoyuan County Government, people with disabilities have to overcome more problems than people without disabilities. There are over 60 thousands people with disabilities live in Taoyuan County, and it is government’s responsibility to help them go everywhere without troubles.
For co-operating the activity, Taoyuan International Airport Business Service Section formed a team to experience all the facilities and services in the airport. Evergreen Airline also demonstrated how to use special wheelchair on the airplane and introduced some remarks for taking airplane and their accessible services. Many participants expressed later that going abroad is not as hard as they have imagined. They are now very enthusiastic in planning a travel abroad.
